Chapters on recommended nutrient intakes, including energy, macro- and micronutrients, on breast-feeding and its alternatives, complementary feeding, growth assessment, dental health and food safety. Emphasis is on the vulnerable child, and includes a separate chapter on iron deficiency.

Designed for health care professionals, particularly in the WHO European Region, to provide guidelines for feeding and nutrition of infants and toddlers.

Significance:

Tables of RNIs, including data from UK, USA, EU and WHO, make this a useful source of reference. Chapters on breast-feeding and complementary feeding, are practical, the latter dealing with the stages passed through by the growing infant from milk feeding to family foods.
